The Shelton Family

'Art from the H(edge)' is a first-time Art Trail contribution from a whole family! So ... because they all come at once we will dedicate this one to bus users everywhere....

1. Please tell us about the work you will be showing in the 2009 E17 Art Trail?
We are calling our exhibition ‘Art from the H(edge)’ and are showing amateur art from talented budding artist Daisy (aged 8) and amateur art and photos from Mum and Dad and little sister Scarlett in our front garden and hedges by the bus stop. Many people stand at this bus stop every day and we hope to offer them and any other passers by something more inspiring to start and end their day than just traffic and noise. The theme will be the four seasons.

2. Could you have done this work anywhere, or is it specific to E17? Did you respond to this year’s Art Trail theme ‘At Home’?
It's not specific to E17 but it is in our home (or rather our front garden). We wouldn't have wanted to travel to do this.

3. Have you participated in the E17 Art Trail before?
No

4. How does your work this year relate to your previous artistic practice?
Our daughter showed promise in art even before attending school and some of her work we are showing is from her early years.

5. What challenges (if any) do you face in realising this work?
We had to find a way of waterproofing the work. We are using laminated work and also putting things in our front room window.

6. Who is this work for?
Anyone who stands at the bus stop outside our house and normally has nothing moreexciting than the traffic to look at, and for anyone else passing.

7. As well as being an artist what else do you do?
My children are nursery and school age. Both Mum and Dad are part-time academic geographers.
8. What is your favourite place in E17?
1) Our house 2) the dog track
