DAY THREE, Into Abstraction
Peculiar shapes tessellate and colours both complement and clash in self-taught artist Richard Franzmann's expressive paintings. All the lines in the four "we are the mods" paintings line up, although Richard has hung them so that there is space between them. He uses a wonderful range of colours and his joyful experimentation with different combinations and shapes has paid off. He tells me that he is using more layers of paint now than when he started out and the painting process involves lots of changes. If he decides something isn't quite right he paints over it. What's difficult is deciding when a piece is finished! Although this show is in Richard's house, he has hung and numbered his paintings very professionally and prepared a helpful information sheet.
