What this blog wants to do....

In any creative process there is often a gap between intentions and outcomes. What we intend to create is sometimes not what we actually end up creating and at other times we end up creating nothing at all. There is a long process before we arrive at a tangible end and what appears in public is often a destination that does not reference a sometimes fascinating journey.

This blog wants to try and give a sense of that process. So in addition to being a record of outcomes at the 2009 Art Trail, it will attempt to chronicle the preparation of artwork, projects and events before they are presented in their final form in September.

The foundation of this is a short questionnaire which I would like all artists participating in this year’s Trail to answer. I also need 3 or 4 images relating to your creative process in general and your preparation for the E17 Art Trail in particular. As well as images of actual work in progress this can also include preliminary sketches or notes, images or materials that have provided inspiration for your Art Trail work or anything else that is important to how or why you work.

The questionnaire is pasted below but I have also sent it as an email to everybody in the Trail. I will create a dedicated blog entry about every artist and their work based on the responses and images I receive. BUT…. if you are unable to respond or provide images by email LET ME KNOW and I will visit and photograph your work in progress myself.

Q & A

1. Please tell us about the work you will be showing in the 2009 E17 Art Trail?
2. Could you have done this work anywhere, or is it specific to E17? Related to this, did you respond to this year’s Art Trail theme ‘At Home’?
3. Have you participated in the E17 Art Trail before?
4. How does your work this year relate to your previous artistic practice?
5. What challenges (if any) do you face in realising this work?
6. Who is this work for?
7. As well as being an artist what else do you do?
8. What is your favourite place in E17?

PS
My own Art Trail project will be an installation in the Vestry House Museum Garden and for this I need objects donated by other participants in the Trail. I will try and collect things throughout August but if you are passing by Tennyson Road please let me know.
